A Farewell to the SS United States
Share
For over 70 years, the SS United States was the pinnacle of American Ship building. Fastest vessel of her type in the world, her name proudly seen in port after port. This week that same name still shines defiant against time, rust, and bad luck. Decades of vain attempts to preserve her in some capacity ended when she was tied up in Mobile Alabama to begin the process to turn her into a diving wreck and artificial reef. Where passengers once roamed, divers and fish will enjoy. Where engines once throbbed with life, homes will be provided for mother nature's creations and one day decades from now, she will return to the earth from which her materials was harvested. Thank you Big U and rest in peace.
